Dr. Joyce D. Spindle, PhD, 89, of Belton, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 12 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton, 503 N. Main Street. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen during a private family burial at a later date.
Joyce was born September 8, 1929, to Alton and Gladys Dishongh in Erick, Oklahoma. She married Floyd T. Spindle in 1950 and they had 3 children: Shawn, Tammy and Robin. Dr. Spindle received her Undergraduate and Master’s degree in Speech Pathology and Education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Later she received her Doctorate from the University of Nebraska in the 1970’s. She developed a keen interest in helping children with learning difficulties. Joyce has written several educational books and articles associated with the need for patience and understanding during the formative years of children and teens. After retiring from teaching for Kingsville I.S.D., Joyce and Floyd started their own business - The Corpus Christi Counseling & Learning Center. Joyce drew from past teaching experience to establish a place able to help all children, teens and adults regardless of their age, ethnicity or disability in their education.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 61 years, Floyd; and her daughters; Tammy and Robin.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her son, Shawn Spindle; grandchildren, Erin Spindle, Marcus Spindle and wife, Tammy; and great-grandchildren, Silas, Zoe, Macey, and Madyson.
