Jamie Lee Dooley, age 94 and a lifetime resident of Troy, Texas, passed away at Baylor Scott & White Hospital on Sunday December 23, 2018. Private funeral services will be held at Bellwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray Blundell and Mike McMurtry officiating.
Jamie was born on September 11, 1924 in Troy, TX to the late Aubrey L. & Lennie Bow Thompson. Jamie graduated from Troy High School and soon thereafter married the love of her life, Jack Dooley Jr. on October 2, 1942 in Troy. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Troy where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was longtime owner & operator of Dooley’s Grocery & Market in Troy and sold Avon in Troy and the surrounding communities. Jamie was a member of the Troy Chapter of the Order of The Eastern Star and the Texas Rural Letter Carriers Women’s Auxiliary for many years.
Jamie was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Lennie, her husband Jack Jr., her brother Jack Thompson of Troy, sisters, Christelle McCarroll and her husband Jack of Killeen, Tootsie Wandelt and her husband George of Troy, Louise Carberry and her husband Hughie of Corpus Christi, and her brother-in-law B.C. (Mac) McGregor of North Richland Hills.
Jamie is survived by her sister Anna McGregor of North Richland Hills, sister-in-law Elizabeth Thompson of Troy, daughters Linda Meacham and her husband Ken of Spring and Jane Kubitz and her husband Michael of Beaumont, and a son Tom Dooley and his wife Karen, of Cypress. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Michelle Vacante and her husband Frank of Navasota, Clint Kubitz of Baytown, Kristen McClung and her husband Robert, of Spring, and Stephen Dooley of Denver, CO., and 3 great-grandchildren: Kayla & Kenzie McClung of Spring and Dillon Guthrie of New Bergen, NJ. and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to convey a very special message of gratitude to the staff of Cornerstone Gardens Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Temple for the loving care and companionship they have offered Jamie over the past 6 years.
