General Manager
Calvin Evans is originally from the small East Texas town of San Augustine where he grew up on the farm and in the logging woods. He attended school there from 1st grade through 12th grade and graduated in 1973, then attended Business College in Nacogdoches. He started working at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine May 28, 1976, working full-time that summer then part-time until August, 1987 when he enrolled into Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston. While attending Mortuary school, he worked for Earthman Funeral Home until December 1, 1989 then accepted a position at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches until November 2, 1994 then accepted a position at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors in Nacogdoches. In 1997, he was promoted to Manager. Calvin resigned at Cason Monk-Metcalf in April 2007 to accept the managers position at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, Texas.
Calvin is married to Sue, they have two children and three grandchildren who are very special. Calvin came from a very Christian oriented family attending a small country Baptist Church most of his life. His father and siblings all live in San Augustine and his wife's mother and siblings live in Nacogdoches. His mother passed away in 2006.
Calvin has been in the funeral business for 31 years and still enjoy it as much today as he did when he started. He feels that it is a ministry of helping people through the most difficult time of their lives. He is very compassionate, caring and understanding and very dedicated to his profession.
Calvin’s favorite motto is “SERVE AS I WOULD BE SERVED” that is what we at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home intend to do is serve each family with the utmost dignity, integrity, respect, and compassion. He is very proud to be a part of the great city of Temple, Texas and look forward to meeting a lot of you fine people of the Central Texas area.

Funeral Director
Robin Akens was born and raised in the Bryan/College Station area. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Bryan. After graduation, she earned her Cosmetology license, and worked as a Hairstylist for several years. She attended Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA, was on the Dean’s List, was a member of the National Funeral Honor Society, and graduated with Honors and Distinctions. She completed her apprenticeship at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home more than 5 years ago, and now serves the community as a Funeral Director.
Robin enjoys cooking, travelling, and spending time at home with her kitty, Gizmo.

Funeral Director
A native of Bell County, Allen was born in Belton. He is a graduate of Bartlett High School, Temple Junior College, and Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. Allen has more than 25 years of combined employment with Harper-Talasek Funeral Home and first began his association with the firm in 1969.
He is proud to have been trained under the direct supervision of the funeral home’s original owners, Dan C. Harper and Reuben D. Talasek. He is married to the former Nadine Hargrove of Heidenheimer, and the couple has two daughters and four grandchildren.

Office Manager
Nancy was born in Texas and lived here all of her life. Married for 46 years to Ray Greenwood with 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren with one due in September.
She worked for Hewett Funeral Home for 5 years, which is now a part of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home and has been with Harper-Talasek for 7 years. Prior to working in funeral service, Nancy worked for Odell Geer Construction Company in Belton for 20 years.

Administrative Assistant
Melind is a native Texan, born and raised in East Harris County most of her life. She worked in the Texas Medical Center for over 20 years as an Insurance Specialist. Melinda relocated to East Texas to enjoy country life where she was employed with an insurance company before moving to Temple in 2001.
She now works as an administrative assistant for Harper-Talasek Funeral Home. She enjoys attending Lakeview Baptist Church where she helps in children’s Sunday School. She also enjoys bowling, fishing, camping and time with her pups, Corky and Buster.

PreNeed Counselor
Ronnie Bond and his wife, Cynthia were born and raised in the Temple area. In celebrating 36 years of marriage, they have two sons and three beautiful grand-daughters. Both Ronnie and his wife are high school graduates and have enjoyed extensive education in family oriented programs.
Ronnie has served with Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple for five years. Temple has always been the focal point in Ronnie’s life. He enjoys this area and considers Temple a fine place to work, live and a place that still has a “down home” family atmosphere.

Hal is a native of West, Texas and has lived in Temple since 1970. He is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He is married with 2 children and 4 grand-children.

Funeral Assistant
Joe is a native of Bell County. He and his wife, Mary have been married for over fifty years and between them have four children, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joe is retired from the Federal Government and has worked for Harper-Talasek Funeral Home for over six years.
He enjoys yard work, but especially spending time with his family. Joe is an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Born in Temple and lived here her entire life. Attended Temple Schools and graduated from Temple High School. Has 4 children and 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Worked for Scott & White Clinic for thirty years and retired as a Clinic Supervisor. Employed at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home for 5 years.
