Edna Kathleen (Moore) Madewell, 90, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010, at her home in Temple. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Edna was best known for her love of family and friends and her love of life. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2010 at Harper-Talasek uneral Home in Temple. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 27 at the funeral home. Reverend Raymond Lindsey will officiate. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park in Waco where Edna will be laid to rest next to her family. She was born on October 9, 1919, southeast of McKinney on the Moore farm at Forest Grove to the late William Miller and Lillie Lee (Mounger) Moore. She was baptized in the creek at Friendship Baptist Church near McKinney and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Temple. Edna graduated from Boyd High School in 1938 where she excelled at office skills and won typing contests. After high school, Edna worked as a secretary in a lawyer's office, an insurance office, and a WWII aircraft hanger. In 1951 she went to work as a secretary at Acme Fast Freight in Waco and was promoted to manager by the time the Acme office closed in 1971. In 1974 she began working at Santa Fe Railroad in Temple and retired in 1988 after 14 years. Edna married R. B. (Buck) Madewell on June 1, 1940 in McKinney and they celebrated 33 years of marriage. Buck was a WWII veteran, building contractor as well as farmer/rancher. Edna was preceded in death by her husband in 1973. Also her sisters, Tressie L. Bowen in 1998, Dr. Annie P. Baugh in 2007 and Juanita Wood in 2007. Half-brothers, Lilburn M. Moore in 1922, Louie A. Moore in 1946, and Earl B. Moore in 1967. And her companion of 24 years, Marvin Bruce, in 2004. Edna is survived by her son, Michael M. Madewell of Abbott; granddaughter, Melody M. Madewell of Jasper and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Edna's friend and personal assistant, Robin Sue Hamilton, for providing such wonderful loving care since 2004. Also, the family would like to thank Freddie Cehand and Dawn Stewart her caregivers and the Scott & White Hospice staff for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1311 S. 57th Street, Temple, TX 76504, ot to the charity of choice.
