Walter A. Kunkel, 91 of Temple, passed away July 17, 2010 in a local nursing facility.
He was born on March 29, 1919 in Copperas Cove, Texas
He served in the Infantry in World War II, 102nd Division. He fought in Germany and was Honorably discharged November 2, 1945.
He retired from the Postal Service after many years of service.
He married Nettie Bridges August 13, 1942. She preceded him in death June 2007.
He is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Alders of Waco, Martha Rowe and husband, David of Temple, and Ann Fernandes and husband, Vince of Temple. He has four grandchildren David Rowe, Jr., Kim Westmoreland, Bradley Alders and Brian Fernandes. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren with another one due in September.
He is survived by one sister, Mildred Lorenz of Georgetown and one brother Melton Kunkel of Granbury. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons David Rowe, Jr., Kenny Westmoreland, Bradley Alders, Brian Fernandes, Jordan Alders and Garrett Alders.
Memorial donations may be made to William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home, Alzheimer’s Unit, 1424 Martin Luther King Jr. Lane Temple, Texas 76504.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. Harper Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Bellwood Memorial Park.
