Graveside service for Vela Irene (Fletcher) Hudgins will be 11:00am Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Bellwood Memorial park in Temple. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.

Vela Irene (Fletcher) Hudgins (born 3-12-28) 81 years old in Moshiem, TX.
Vela passed away of complications due to a recent fall, while walking in her neighborhood of 46 years.

Vela grew up in Central Texas. She graduated from Temple High School, Temple, TX. She married W.A. (Bill) Hudgens, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1957. They had 3 children – Bill, David, and Dianne Hudgens.

She moved to Tulsa in 1962 and purchased her current residence in 1964. All three children graduated from Will Rogers High School.

Vela worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 25 years before retiring. She did volunteer work for Red Cross of Tulsa for several years.

Vela lived for her family and cherished the time she shared with them. She also cherished many of her neighbors and their close friendships.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Hudgins, Jr., parents, Ann and Earl Fletcher; and her brother, E.T. Fletcher.

She is survived by her sister, Alma Smith of Temple, TX, 3 children; William and wife, Debra Hudgens of Belfalls, TX, David Hudgens of Lake Texoma, and Dianne Hudgens Cook of Tulsa, OK; 6 grandchildren; Aubrey, David, Ben, Brandon, Natasha, and Aaron, 4 great-grandchildren; Tanner, William, Kaylee, and Alexandria.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
