Mary was born March 28, 1926 to John W. and Annie (Payne) Vannatta in Pendleton, Texas. A loving and involved mother, she delighted in making pies, especially pineapple and pecan. She also enjoyed spending time at the Central Texas Sportsman Club with family and friends where she was an honorary lifetime member. She loved the Frito Pie at VFW #1820, where she played Bingo. Mary was known for her dry sense of humor and her ability to treat so many as family, considering many her children. She was a member of Heights Baptist church and greatly enjoyed playing bingo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John L. Lavette; second husband, Raymond E. Newsom; brother, J.C. Vannatta; and sisters, Leah Jennings and Catherine Carr.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her brother, Ellis P. Vannatta; sister, Johnnie May Hobbs; and daughter, Rita S. Lavette.
